July 23, 1863 Letter to Anna Weston

McClellan U.S. Hospital
Nicetown Pa. July 23rd 1863.

Miss Anna Weston!

I had a letter from Almira this afternoon wherein I saw that you are at home. I take the liberty in asking you if you can assist me in getting a furlough to Weymouth before I go in active service again. -- I desire very much to have one granted to me but it is not in my favor to do it alone to get one. -- So if you do anything for me I know that you will do it and have great confident to you. --

My arm is improving very fast. -- I can used it freely. The wounds are most healed up. I have good care taken of me. I had it dressed regular twice a day -- but now only once. --

I hear by Almira that Miss Deborah and Mrs. Chapman are in New York -- and that the Doctor just now coming home.

I hope there is military force enough now in New York to keep riots down. ---

If you will do anything for me in writing to the surgeon of this hospital so please you will find the address J. G. Murphy, A.A. Surgeon U.S.A., Executive Office - McClellan US Army Gen. Hospital, Nicetown near Philadelphia Pa.

Or if you think it better to write to me that I give it in myselves then I leave to you. -- I do not know what is the best for me to be successful. ---- I shall try hard to have a furlough made out to me. -- I think I have this best chance now.

Please give to Mrs. Weston my kind regard in hope that I may see her once more soon. -- My respect to the Doctor and to Miss [Anna was written in but crossed out] Emma. -- Also to all the rest. --- In hope that you are in good health and that I may soon be at Weymouth on a short visit.

Remain I your respectfuly
