January 6, 1863 Letter to Miss Anna Weston

Fort Ramsey. Jan. 6th 1863

Miss Anna Weston!

My kind friend.

The time comes very near that you leave our Government City for home again. I think for having you so near by one here at my present stay, and that you will be in a week far away from one, in a place where I have friends & a family which are dear to me, and where you will live united with them. Do I think and my heart tells in one in love to you as friends; and think it for my duty to see you once more before you leave the very beautifull Capital which will be in bloom again in a short time, where then she is not in danger to die ---

I would have come in on a short stay to day, but so as I've got to drill in brigade at 8 1/2 o Clock, don't present my seeing you.

I shall be able to see you to morrow afternoon, where then I can talk to you what I got to day and to give you what I should like to send to Almira, and that is my likeness in uniform.

My love to Miss Emma & Mr Weston.

You true friend
Augustus Hesse
